Driving with Anna

Driving into church last weekend I noticed that the mountains were turning pink. When they got some darker the color turned purple. The color wasn’t too dark yet. It was more of a lavender color. That color suggests something special to me.

My grandmother loved the color lavender. She painted her living room lavender and had drapes to match. She was loving but firm, graceful but extended mercy to all who sought it. My grandmother was a person of excellence but she extended grace to those who were weary of heart.

Nature shares the color of lavender in sunsets, in clouds, in the skies. There are beautiful flowers such as lavender, orchids, lilacs and violets. They are delicate and smell wonderful. Their oil is precious.

When we look to the majesty of the mountains and see them such a shade of purple, we believe that God can speak to us. We remember that God is the maker of heaven and earth. That he created the mountains and the sky. Every day he creates a new sunset.

And I know that he is able to come to me here in this place and help me. He is my only hope. He is my rescuer. He comes to me and gives me life. He is my God and my hiding place.

Psalm 121

I look up to the mountains - does my help come from there?
My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.
The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.
The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
